º»¹®³»¿ë This film with a long title, 'Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring' will usher us into silent solitude through meticulously planned cinematography that maximizes the effect of the natural environment. The environment is essential to this story as it takes place in a beautiful valley that is untouched by the modern civilization. In the middle of the valley there is a tiny lake in which a floating monastery drifts by the forces of the nature. It has a philosophical meaning as it supports the thought that everything or everyone on the earth is part of a greater plan in which individuals can make small ripples that will affect every individual throughout their own life.

Every single frame is carefully directed as color, form, and movement come together into a meaningful expression of either spiritual meaning, or a personal meaning which puts behind the eye of beholder. The mise-en-scene is exceptionally beautiful as the director, Kim Ki-duk`s former works. This visual style well explains the chaotic expression which nature expresses itself within each season.
