º»¹®³»¿ë About A&P [Plot, Character, Setting, Point of View and Tone]

1. Plot
Sammy works at A&P supermarket for his allowance and his parents¡¯ advice. The story starts with the entering of three girls who wear nothing but bathing suits with barefoot to the store. Sammy is watching those girls over his counter and doing such an analysis about each girl¡¯s appearance and mostly, impressed with a girl who seems the queen among them. As they come to the Sammy¡¯s counter and pay for those things. As they are just about to finish chores in the store, Lengel, the manager of the store give them a scold and make them leave there. Sammy, then, stands against his manager and gives him a notice of his resignation to show off his heroic mind to the girls. Nevertheless, the girls aren¡¯t there and don¡¯t know what Sammy did. Soon, Sammy realizes what he did and worried about his action as he watches Lengel¡¯s working.

2. Character
Sammy: He has a typical characteristic of teenagers about impulsive action and trying to show off his heroic things to attractive women. Moreover, he also has fluctuating mind. The most important his characteristic is resistance. He stands against Mr. Lengel who stands for A&P where we can only see standardized things.
Stokesie: Although he married, he shows us his interests to women like Sammy, but at the same time he recognizes his expected social courtesy or duties so he put his instinct-like-thing beneathhis reason. He is a kind of a person who became grown up but also has interests of teenagers.
